Lava rocks, available in black or red, are versatile and can be used with fire pits, fireplaces, or for decorative purposes. They are heatproof, making them perfect for both indoor and outdoor gas fire pits and fireplaces. You can choose between purchasing 10 or 40 pounds of lava rocks.
When determining how much lava rocks you need for your project, follow the calculations based on the shape of your fire pit. For circular/round fire pits, calculate the area by multiplying the radius (in inches) by itself and then by 3.14. Divide this square inches value by 16 to get the number of pounds you will need for the optimal depth of 2 inches.
For square or rectangular fire pits, calculate the area by multiplying the width (left and right) by the depth (front to back). Divide this square inches value by 16 to determine the number of pounds needed for the optimal depth of 2 inches.
Remember that the size of lava rocks ranges from 1/2" to 1-1/2", and both black and red options are available in 10 or 40 pounds.
